Another Kelty update

Kelty is feeling much better. She has been eating wet food on her own for almost a week now. We took her into the vet on Monday and he was very happy with her progress. She went from weighing 10.75lbs the week before, to 11.15lbs. Her target weight is 12 to 13lbs (a little lower than her weight in October of 15.85lbs). So Monday they removed her feeding tube! The doctor also took some blood and that appears to have come back with good results as well. The vet said he has never seen a cat recover this fast so we are very happy and hope that she continues to progress.

She has been acting like her old self and is eating well, although she is still picky, so I am hovering a little to make sure she eats. Not suprising, her new favorite wet food is "Chicken with Lobster" (Wellness brand, a great cat food that uses only human-grade ingredients [no, not human ingredients], free of added growth hormones and steroids). She eats better than we do! I have some before and after pictures below for comparison (click on pictures for a larger view). Thank you to you all for your support and kind words!

Kelty's incision (nearest the bandage, dark dot) where they removed her tube on Monday. She is working very hard to shred her bandage to tiny shreds.

Her gum's on the left from when she was sick (yellowish), and now they are going back to a healthy pink (even if she did not want me to take a picture of them and her teeth do need cleaned a bit).

You can see the yellow from when she was sick in the picture to the left, and the healthy pink in her ear today on the right.

Glad to hear your kitty has recovered so well and so quickly. I can't even afford basic care for myself; if my cat got sick, I'm not sure what I would do. It's very scary, and your original report had me shedding some tears.

Thank you! I shed quite a few tears when we found out what was wrong. It was very scary and I am so happy she has pulled though!

I know how you feel about basic care for yourself. I do not have insurance and avoid going to the doctor myself, because we can not afford it. I put the cats health before my own in this case. We have a credit card called "Care Credit" that is just for the vet (you should see if your vet would let you use it if you ever needed it). That way we can make payments on her bill over time. We were also lucky that I was able to feed her at home though her tube. If we had needed to put her in an animal hospital that would have broken the bank. I am glad to have a job where I can work at home or take her in with me so she could get the attention she needed.

ReBecca, I'm so glad Kelty is doing better. I'm sure it was stressful and sad and scary... all those things, and I'm just glad to see some pink gums!

I am a bit behind reading and keeping up, but am slowly catching up a bit. Am not even bothering with Google Reader yet! Glad you are busy at work, too - it sounds interesting.

Hello SF! Thank you, I appreciate the note. We are all so glad she is feeling better, although I did not expect myself to find it so hard to leave her for any extended period of time. I am just so freaked out that any change from the normal could make her stop eating again, but I also have to go out of town from time to time, so hopefully she will remember that and be ok with it.

I have been behind on reading and posting, you are not alone. I left Google reader alone for a few days, came back, and had something like over 300 post to read, it was a delete fest.

Work is good and interesting. I should take some random pictures of the museum sometime. And we have been thrill to get out into the field again!

Hope all is well in your area and that AK was fun!
