Oscar Predictions 2012

I did this in 2009 and 2010, so I thought I would give it a try again. These are my Oscar Predictions (and reasons) in green. I am only guessing for the major categories. I will update the actual winners in red. Anything in dark blue are categories I guess correctly in. Unfortunately I did not get to see all of this years nominated movies, so these are my best guesses of personal observation (when possible) and popular talk (for what its worth). I am only doing 6 categories tonight.  If anyone else wants to play, jump in. In 2009 I got 5/8 (only 63%) and in 2010 I got 5/7 (71%) - lets see how I do this year.

Update: I got 3/6 (50%). Oh well.

Best Picture

  • The Artist* [It was a really good movie]
  • The Descendants*
  • Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
  • The Help* [I loved this movie. I thought it was great. I also enjoyed the 4 of the others I saw (*) but I think the Help was the best with cast and story line. Hollywood will probably go for The Artist however]
  • Hugo*
  • Midnight in Paris
  • Moneyball*
  • The Tree of Life*
  • War Horse

Directing

  • The Artist - Michel Hazanavicius
  • The Descendants - Alexander Payne
  • Hugo - Martin Scorsese
  • Midnight in Paris - Woody Allen
  • The Tree of Life - Terrence Malick

Actor In A Leading Role

  • Demián Bichir in A Better Life
  • George Clooney in The Descendants
  • Jean Dujardin in The Artist [I love Brad Pitt so, but his roll was not competition for Jean's]
  • Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
  • Brad Pitt in Moneyball

Actor In A Supporting Roll

  • Kenneth Branagh in My Week with Marilyn
  • Jonah Hill in  Moneyball
  • Nick Nolte in Warrior
  • Christopher Plummer in Beginners [He has yet to win, and deserves to. I would not be surprised if Max takes it however]
  • Max von Sydow in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Actress In A Leading Role

  • Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs
  • Viola Davis in The Help [she was awesome. I did not see any of the other performances however]
  • Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
  • Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady [I love Meryl. I am glad she won. She is pretty amazing!]
  • Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn

Actress In A Supporting Roll

  • Bérénice Bejo in The Artist
  • Jessica Chastain The Help
  • Melissa Mccarthy in Bridesmaids [She was the best part of the movie, but comedies seldom win]
  • Janet McTeer in Albert Nobbs
  • Octavia Spencer in The Help [She was great in this movie!!]
