Buying a house?

Who out there has bought/sold a house before? Any advice? John and I have started to look for a new home closer to where he works. This is my first time to go through this sort of thing, so I am open to any suggestions you all may have!

Any advice you need just ask. I have done it twice now, in 2 different states.

We are going over to look at the house we like again today. Is there anything we should specifically look for or keep any eye out for? Good questions to ask?

I can give you a couple of things off the top of my head.
- burns on the fuse panel
- rot on the walls or any water marks on the ceiling or the basement
- don't pay attention to the paint or anything, that can always be covered up.
- any major repairs that might need to be done (i.e. roof)
- Mostly I would just look for if you like the neighborhood and the house is a good layout for you. I find the layout has a lot to do with how much you like the house.
- Also if you need storage you should prolly make sure there is some of that. A lot of house have very little to none.

We looked at the house we like and I was surprised to see that it was a bit different that I remember. It has a smaller living room than I remember, but nice size bedrooms. The kitchen is also nice sized. But we would need to put up a fence for sure, and I would like to replace some of the light fixtures (they are a bit dated and it was only built in 2000).

We went to go look at another house for comparison sake and actually ended up liking it. It is the same size, but had a fence. It has a larger living room, but a smaller kitchen and bedrooms. But the layout makes it look bigger and it has a dinning room and feels much more "modern" than the other (it was built in 2004).

So I guess my new question is do you go for bigger bedrooms/smaller general living space

or

larger living room/living space, smaller bedrooms.....

smaller bedrooms, larger living space. you spend a lot of time in the bedroom but it's usually in the bed, not in the room. unless you have one of those luxury bedrooms with sitting area, office, etc.

That is sort of what we are thinking. We are going to go back and look at it again when we get back from thanksgiving. I hope it will still be there!!
