Ever since we did not make it down John has been itching to get back down there. So we are off to try again and if all goes well we should be sleeping down in that green patch of Cottonwoods down in the canyon right now:
Its not so much the going down into the canyon I am worried about. It is more the climbing out part! It is a steep, switch back trail. And I agree that if it were easy everyone would do it. And it is the hard part that keeps the people who can not/should not try it from doing it. I just hope I do not fall into that category. I am sure I can do it, I just know it will take me a bit longer than it would most others.
The best part of this is that I plan to reward myself (the proverbial carrot on the stick) with dinner at El Tovar when we climb out. They have the most amazing pepper jack au gratin potatoes. Which is probably part of the reason that I have trouble getting my big butt out of the canyon in the first place (the love of cheese that is...).
So keep your fingers crossed for us! I know John will be the rock star he is and have no problem with this. Hopefully I will not have to be carried out ;) and hopefully the cats and dog are not driving the pet/house sitter to insane!
