Update on Summer Reading List

Earlier in the summer I posted two list about books I planned to read over the warm months (You can see those post here and here.) I thought I would give an update on my progress:

Key: Finished; In Progress; Not Started
  • the Songlines - As I mentioned when I started the list in June, I had already finished this book.
  • the Namesake - Have not read this one yet.
  • Breakfast with Buddha -Just finished it! I had been reading this one for quite a bit of the summer. I finished it when we were in Hawaii.
  • Fifty Years on the Old Frontier -Have not read this one yet.
  • Everett Ruess: A Vagabond for Beauty - Have not read this one either.....I think I am behind.
  • Cinema Southwest - I have read parts of it, but not all of it.
  • Wishful Drinking - John and I read this one on our way back from the Grand Canyon in July. It was a great, funny, quick read.
  • The Road to Woodstock - We read this one while on our trip to Canada/Montana back in August, and actually finished it before the 40th anniversary of Woodstock! At least I completed that goal! It was an interesting book and I really enjoyed reading all the history.
  • Well-Preserved: Recipes and Techniques for Putting Up Small Batches of Seasonal Foods - Check! I have read this one, although none of the recipes have been anything I have wanted to try yet. It did help me with techniques however and I discovered she has a blog that I subscribe to now.
  • Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving - Wow, I have really used this book quite a bit over the last two months! It is a great book with lots of recipes and ideas. I also like the tips it gives in sidebars and the easy to understand techniques chapter/introductions.
The only non-book-list book I am reading is one I was loaned by our friend Vaia - The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan. I have really enjoyed it so far, although it is not a quick read. I really need to get my own copy and return this one to Vaia! It might take me a while to finish it. My husband also just gave me a copy of Hawaii: A Novel by James A. Michener this past Sunday. He thought after our trip a little over a week ago that I might enjoy it. I look forward to reading it!

You are doing much better than I at summer reading - I think I finished 2 (maybe 3?), and I have 1 or 2 in progress. (And I used to read so much!)

These last few years have been the first time in a long time that I have been able to read fun things that are not always work related! I am trying to enjoy it for as long as I can ;)
I do not figure it will last lol.
